Luhuitou Park Luhuitou Park is located high on a hill overlooking Sanya, providing visitors with sweeping vistas of the city, its surrounding area, and the South China Sea. The park features a 12-meter tall statue commemorating the legend of a brave young hunter and a mountain deer that was apparently transformed into a beautiful young girl. In the legend, a hunter of the Li community tracked a deer to the cliff's edge. The deer is said to have then turned its head and transformed into a girl who became the hunter's bride. The park takes its name, which means, 'deer turns its head' from the legend. Luhuitou Park is both a daytime and nighttime destination, offering spectacular views, shopping and dining facilities. Nanshan Cultural Tourism ZoneOne of the largest cultural tourist attractions of its kind in China, the colourful Nanshan Cultural Excursion Zone, located just 40 km west of Sanya along the Hainan West-line Expressway, is, in fact, three separate theme parks rolled into one. Nanshan Buddhism Culture Park is a window on China's traditional Buddhism culture; the Felicity and Longevity Culture Park shines its light on an atmosphere of peace and harmony; and the Nanhai Cultural Customs Park highlights China's diverse social customs. Key features of the zone include the four-sided statue of Buddha, Buddhist temples, superior landscaping and sea views. The zone has been designated a Priority Project of China Tourism Development and is earmarked for further development, including the construction of a 108-metre-tall bronze statue of Buddha on a man-made island in the sea just off Nanshan. Remotest Corner of the Earth ResortThe Remotest Corner of the Earth Resort, or Tianya Haijiao, is doubtlessly Sanya's most famous scenic beauty spot and the highlight for many visitors who come to experience the area's spectacular beaches, expansive sea views and rich history. The cape, which is located about 20 km west of Sanya, is a perfect harmonization of natural creation, with bleached white sands, turquoise seas, deep blue skies and verdant hills. Rising over the beach is an ancient rock formation inscribed with Chinese characters meaning 'The Edge of the Sky' written by Chengzhe, chief magistrate of Yazhou Prefecture in the Qing Dynasty. Another inscription nearby reads 'The End of the Sea'. A rock formation inscribed with 'Column South' is featured on China's two-Yuan banknote. The cape takes its name from the then traditional, and now historic and incorrect, belief that China was then literally, itself, the entire civilized world, and that the country's most southern shore marks the end of the world. The Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo, among others, was banished here due to the cape's remoteness. The area has been developed in recent years with a landscafacilities at the gate. Visitors to the cape will encounter people of the indigenous Li community retailing various handicrafts, coral and seashells.ped park and gardens running parallel to the beach and parking and shopping Butterfly ValleyLocated close to the Longtan Lakes near stunning Yalong Bay, Butterfly Valley is a 1.5-hecter acre garden of vibrant colours and feathery winged delights. On display are some of China's most rare and precious butterflies, including the Peking Papilio, amongst many others. Facilities include tour areas, displays and shopping. Of special note, Hainan Island has the greatest concentration of butterflies in China and is sometimes called The Butterfly Kingdom. Luobi CaveMysterious and ancient, Luobi Cave in Lizhigou Town, about five km northwest of Sanya is shrouded in unwritten history and enduring legend. The rock formation is located in the Liang Keng Slope of Litchi Furrow at an elevation of 110 metres. The cave itself is about 12 metres high at its mouth, reaching to a height of about 22 metres at its centre, where two pen-shaped stalactites hang from the roof. The cave and area are of significant archaeological significance. |
