State Council committee urges safe work ahead of Olympics

Beijing, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The Work Safety Committee under China's State Council, the Cabinet, on Thursday urged the enterprises held by the central government to ensure safe work ahead of the Beijing Olympics.

The committee in a circular told the enterprises to check for and eliminate the hidden factors that might cause major accidents.

It also asked them to work out emergency response plans and drill for possible dangerous situation.

Safety checking should be especially stepped up in places where people congregate, such as train, bus and subway stations, airports, hotels and recreational venues, the circular said.

To monitor the transportation of dangerous substances should also be beefed up, it urged.
